Back in 1994, Dark Star Brewery was born in the basement of the Evening Star. Dark Star no longer brew in the city, but their presence is very much felt in this busy boozer, and it continues to hold a place in the hearts of Sussex beer lovers. You can still find plenty of Dark Star on tap here, of course, but you can also find a really imaginative and constantly changing local, national and international selection on the seven cask hand-pulls and eight keg lines.

The pub is small, but has a couple of tables outside in what can become quite a heady roadside sun-trap. The unofficial railway arrivals and departure lounge, this is also the perfect place to orientate yourself when you first get here, or to grab a tasty train beer for the journey home. Just try not to lose track of time now…
