When the likes of Lene Lovich, Damien Rice, Georgie Fame and Kiki Dee have played in your front bar, what’s next?
The story of The Greys is the stuff of legends. Although once described as no bigger than a shoebox by a former landlord, the pub has a rich history of both live music and fine food. It has also been widely credited with introducing the good people of Brighton and Hove to the joys of Belgian beer.
But times change, and around six months ago The Greys became the subject of a widely publicised crowdfunding campaign by the local community who were keen to save it from what seemed like imminent closure and redevelopment. The campaign was ultimately unsuccessful, but the pub was bought by a sympathetic owner who seems intent on returning it to its rightful place at the heart of the community.
And luckily beer is already playing a central role in this new chapter of the story of The Greys. So, if you’ve not revisited the pub for a while, Brighton & Hove Beer Week provides the perfect opportunity to head along there and wish the new managers all the luck in the world! Cheers!
